I have re-enabled anonymous comments, subject to processing by Mollom's spam detection service. This will not affect authenticated users, who are excluded from the processing. I will be closely monitoring how effective this solution is, and hopefully the results will be good.

As you may have noticed, the site went down last night and it went down hard. A software update managed to error out and leave things in a very inconsistent state. Due to this I've had to rebuild my site from the ground up, but luckily I had a series of backups both in the form of database/file dumps and a test server that had a copy of the important content. This meant that with a little bit of effort I could recover everything I needed.

Commenting for anonymous users has been disabled while I look into a CAPTCHA type solution. This is due to the huge amounts of spam being posted on this site, and I'm unwilling to either
- Spend half an hour a day deleting spam comments from posts.
- Spend half an hour a day deleting spam comments from the approval queue.
If you have a problem with the decision then make the world a better place and go kill a spammer :-P
Note: I do not endorse killing spammers.
