Welcome to iualdii.net, the web home of John Kemp. This site will host a variety of articles based around the things I do at work and in my free time which I think may be interesting or useful. Keep an eye on the blog posts (to the right) and content updates (below). Registering an account on this site will exclude your comments from spam checking but currently offers no other benefits.
The site also has a Twitter feed if you wish to be informed of updated content and scheduled maintainance.
Recent content which has been added to the site. Only articles are included, blog posts and static site pages (such as "About Me") are not.

I have re-enabled anonymous comments, subject to processing by Mollom's spam detection service. This will not affect authenticated users, who are excluded from the processing. I will be closely monitoring how effective this solution is, and hopefully the results will be good. For those wishing to comment without creating an account, the process should be unaltered unless the service detects that you are posting spam (in which case the comment is dropped) or it is unsure (in which case you will be given a CAPTCHA challenge before the comment is accepted).
As you may have noticed, the site went down last night and it went down hard. A software update managed to error out and leave things in a very inconsistent state. Due to this I've had to rebuild my site from the ground up, but luckily I had a series of backups both in the form of database/file dumps and a test server that had a copy of the important content. This meant that with a little bit of effort I could recover everything I needed. It would have been much easier had I performed a backup immediately before the update, and in future I will be doing that (as you are very strongly advised to do). I've learned my lesson from this, and hopefully you can learn from it too.
You may notice a few differences this time around - the front page has been rearranged, there are no translation options, and the galleries are gone. The latter two will be back eventually, but that may take a while. Translation is likely to wait until Drupal 7 is released and hopefully they provide the capability in a more sensible way. The galleries still don't have a nice solution and I think I'm back to rolling my own.
Commenting for anonymous users has been disabled while I look into a CAPTCHA type solution. This is due to the huge amounts of spam being posted on this site, and I'm unwilling to either
If you have a problem with the decision then make the world a better place and go kill a spammer :-P
I'm currently getting the site translated into Romanian as well as English, thanks to a lot of help from Ramona. So far I've done the menus (excluding the silly "Kemp Elsewhere" which doesn't even work in English anyway). I'm having a few issues thanks to the way the software I use works, but it's nothing I can't deal with and it's due to be overhauled in the next release anyway apparently, so fingers crossed. Hopefully translated content to come depending on how busy Ramona is. The flags in the top-left will let you switch language. If anything is broken or missing then please let me know via the Contact link in the top-right.
